My name is Javier Aguilar and I am a Barcelona-based illustrator and have worked on assignments with different clients in Europe and America for over thirty years. I started out illustrating with traditional art materials and years later gravitated toward the computer and the digital tools I employ today. I have enjoyed the challenge of working with all sorts of subject matter: op-ed stuff, literature, economy, religion, science, war & peace, and I have illustrated articles by names such as: Mijaíl Gorbachov, Hillary Clinton, Tony Blair, Felipe Gonzalez, Mário Soares, Bob Woodward, Naomi Klein, Kofi Annan, Yuriko Koike, Anthony Giddens, Fidel V. Ramos, Eduardo Galeano… That is why after so many years of steady illustration work, I have been able to develop a personal technique and conceptual style for creating my images.

In recent years I have crafted a style that employs a black and white linear engraving look, as well as splashes of gestural vivid color. The search for concept in my illustration imagery lies always within the ironic game of opposites.
